Sly Park Recreation area offers something for everyone! The center piece of SPRA is Jenkinson Lake, providing opportunities to swim, fish, water ski or take part in a variety of paddle sports activities and rentals. No personal watercraft like SeaDoos are allowed on the lake. The lake is surrounded by over 9 miles of trails that accommodate hikers, bikers and horses. The trail system winds through thick forested areas and open meadows while closely following the lake shore around the entire perimeter. Perhaps relaxing in the shade is your ideal activity, we have you covered there as well. Scattered throughout the park are a variety of day-use areas which are excellent picnic or cookout locations.

.

Sly Park Campground is operated by the El Dorado Irrigation District (EID). The Sly Park facility is off Sly Park Road, south of Highway 50. Hiking and equestrian trails lead off into the adjacent Eldorado National Forest. On 640-acre Jenkinson Lake visitors enjoy water skiing, wake boarding, fishing, and sailing. Jet skis are not allowed. Sly Park Campground is divided into 9 camps along the north shore. Some premium sites are lakefront while others may be as many as 300 yards from the shore. All have good amenities. Sly Park also has Youth Camps, Group Camps, and an Equestrian Camp. A two-night minimum stay is required for weekends, and 3 nights on holiday weekends. Reservations for individual campsites can be made up to 14 months in advance and for group sites, 2 years in advance. First-come, first-served sites are often available.

Before refrigeration became popular, ice was harvested here at this lake and transported by wagon to Placerville where it was stored in mine tunnels for distribution and use. The old Pearson Soda Works (Cosmic Café, 594 main St.) has such an old tunnel cut into the rock hillside from inside the building that you can tour. This reservoir is owned and operated by SMUD and the USFS, which has four campgrounds connected by trail to Ice House road. Directions: Go 23 miles east of Placerville on Highway 50 and turn L on Ice House Road. Go 11 miles north and park just past the turnoff to Big Hill (signed and paved). The trail begins on the east side of Ice House Road at a barricade. The trail can be accessed from any of the campgrounds along the north shore of the lake, or from Ice House Road itself, from a parking area just north of the Ice House turnoff (FS 32) along the Left side of Ice House Road. Additional exploring includes the nice waterfalls up Silver Creek from where it dumps into the lake.

.

Ice House Reservoir campgrounds are at about 5,400 feet in elevation and are usually open from Memorial Day weekend through mid-October (some to November 1). Single sites are limited to 1 vehicle and 6 people. An extra vehicle is allowed for an additional fee if parking space permits. Trailers are counted as vehicles. The reservoir is 12 miles north of Highway 50. Ice House Reservoir's 678 surface acres are a popular destination for anglers. Water skiers, jet skiers, and just ordinary pleasure boaters enjoy the lake. The 3-mile long Ice House Bike Trail runs along the shores of Ice House Reservoir, passing by all the campgrounds. The west end of the trail connects to roads around Big Hill.
