Spencer, event ogarnizer, has previously focused on the “& More” part of the "Bay Area Ridge Trail & More" group; October 30, 2021 we had been checked off an eponymous segment of the "Bay Area Ridge Trail (RT) & More" group. We had some good views of the Santa Clara Valley, and beyond, with some ridgeline sections alternating with descents and climbs (two each way). This trial was rated “Hard” on AllTrails (but those of you who have hiked with Spencer regularly past have managed these trails well enough). Meeting location was at Sierra Road Staging Area parking lot, located at approximately 5345 Sierra Rd, San Jose, CA 95132 , near the northern boundary of Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve.

The daytime high was in the upper 60’s, low 50’s in the morning when we start.

Sierra Vista Open Space preserve in the Eastern foothills of Santa Clara County offers sweeping views of the Valley and the opportunity to stroll through diverse landscapes including oak woodlands, rolling grassland, and chaparral communities, characterized by their groups of shrubs. Perched above Alum Rock Park, the area protects watersheds, areas of land that absorb water for it to flow into streams and reservoirs, like Penitencia Creek and is home to several protected wildlife species including the California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, American badger, and Western burrowing owl and other species such as golden eagle, mountain lion, bobcat, and gray fox.
