영문판 소설 "Flutter, Flutter, Butterfly"를 발간하고 배포하여야 하는 이유

"Flutter, Flutter, Butterfly" 책을 영어권 국가 구석구석에 배포하는게 이 출판프로젝트의 목적입니다.

한국의 중견 소설가이신 은미희 (Mihee Eun) 선생님께서 일제의 전쟁범죄 위안부를 다룬 미발표 장편 소설 '나비 날다'를 2016년 3월 기증하여 주셨습니다. 일본의 영어권 역사 왜곡이 극에 달해, 그 대응 차원으로 영문판으로 먼저 번역 출판하고자 미국 미네소타의 안영숙 (Anna Young Lee) 선생님이 번역작업에 돌입하여 초인적인 작업으로 지난 2016년 6월 10일 영문번역이 완료되었습니다.

처음에 책 출판자금을 모르려고 페이스 북 그룹(https://www.facebook.com/groups/FlutterFlutterButterfly/)을 열었고 여러분들이 기증을 통해서 기본적인 출판비용은 마련이 되었으나 이 금액은 e-book과 50권의 저자용 하드카피만 가능한 비용이므로 미국과 한국의 펀딩을 통해 모아진 금액은 2차 하드 카피 출판과 미국내 학교과 도서관에 무료 기증하는데 전액 쓰여질 예정입니다.

이제 영어권 출판 목전에 이르러 일제로 부터 진정한 독립을 쟁취하는 심정으로 이 배포사업을 추진합니다.

한일간 위안부합의 이후 일본의 위안부(성노예)역사 날조 공세가 극에 달하고 있습니다. 토니 블링큰 미 국무부 부장관은 공개적으로 재미한인시민단체의 소녀상 건립 및 보존 캠페인 활동을 금지해 줄 것을 부탁한 이후 일본정부와 민간단체까지 가세하여 '요꼬이야기', '위안부는 직업매춘부' 등의 영문 책자 미국 관공서 도서관 학교 배포에 박차를 가하고 있습니다. 또 '체인지닷오알지(Change.com)'이라는 미국 온라인 청원사이트를 통해 날조된 위안부 역사를 미국 교과서에 기술할 것을 요구하는 캠페인을 지속하고 있습니다. 이미 아베 신조(安倍晋三) 일본 총리는 '위안부 강제연행은 없었다', 기시다 후미오(岸田文雄) 일본 외상은 '위안부는 성노예 아니다' 라고 천명하면서 일본 정부정책과 외교정책을 통해 불평등한 한일간 위안부합의 조차 무력화시키고 있습니다. '체인지닷오알지'를 통해 미국 교과서에 "위안부는 급여를 잘 받은 매춘부였고 미군에도 서비스를 제공했다는 내용을 기술하라"(Write Comfort Women were well paid prostitutes, sold their service to US Army as well)고 전개하는 캠페인에는 당초 5000명을 목표로 청원을 실시하고 있었으나 5000명을 달성한 이후에도 재차 청원목표수를 7500명으로 수정하여 미국서부시간 기준 2016년 9월 8일 오전 8시 현재 6585명이 참여한 상태입니다. 우리가 소설가 은미희 선생님의 일제 성노예를 다룬 미발표 소설 "나비, 날다"의 영문판 소설 "Flutter Flutter Butterfly"를 발간하고 배포하여야 하는 이유 중에 하나입니다.

Can you believe it is true?

In the world, there are many uncomfortable truths. Truths that are covered up and hidden in hopes that they will fade and be forgotten. Wherever we go, everybody avoids talking about this reality. Whenever the topic is brought up, people become uneasy and uncomfortable. As a result, lies are told and false histories are taught to future generations. No matter how uncomfortable and embarrassing the past is, we must remember it and learn from pastmistakes so that history never repeats itself.

In this story we see an example of an uncomfortable truth. A young girl, at the blossoming age of 15, was forced into sex slavery by the Japanese Army. Her life was disrupted and she found herself deserted merely because she was born at a time when Chosun (Korea) was a weak country. Through no fault of her own the girl was born in the wrong era and the wrong country, and her fate was miserable. The girl lived her life in seclusion, receiving only piercing glares from those around her. And this is only one case - tens of thousands of gray-haired women still haven't received any consolation or compensation, after having lived in pain for their entire lives. These women are still suffering and protesting, “We do not ask for money, we want an apology! A sincere apology!”
